WORKSHOP: Anthotypes – Plant-Based Art

  • Bradbury Art Museum 201 Olympic Drive Jonesboro, Arkansas United States (map)

Turn plants into a photographic emulsion! Blending or crushing plant material with a mortar and pestle will allow us to utilize the pulp and juice of plants to brush onto paper and create contact prints of physical objects, or use simple positive images from copy paper to develop imagery.

If it photosynthesizes, it can be used for an anthotype. Be creative with what you select for a print and what colors you’d like to work with. Nearly anything from your garden, the produce section, and even frozen fruit are great options to consider. We will supply plenty of materials, but please feel invited to bring your own.

This workshop will teach you how to create a photographic positive from plant emulsion utilizing the sun as an exposure tool. Depending on the plant material used, the exposure process can finish in an hour, or up to three weeks! It will be a little messy, please dress accordingly. There are limited seats and registration is first-come-first-served.
